GEAR UP TN Scholars Program

                 All 9th graders were given a form about the GEAR UP TN Scholars Program.   This program aims to encourage students to prepare academically for educational opportunities beyond high school and provides scholarships to eligible students from the Class of 2011.   To be eligible students must agree to do the following:

·   Remain in good standing with the school district on attendance.

·   Stay out of discipline trouble, including substance abuse and criminal acts.

·   Complete the courses specified in the GEAR UP TN Scholars program with a grade point average of at least 2.5 in those courses.

¨  4 credits of English

¨  4 credits of math (including Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II, and one additional math course.   A math course must be taken all four years of high school)

¨  3 credits of lab science

¨  3 credits of social sciences (including U.S. History, economics, U.S. Government, and one elective), and

¨  2 credits in the same foreign language or in computer technology

·   Establish a student account on Collegefortn.org.

·   Participate in all required GEAR UP TN activities yearly.

·   Provide information needed for evaluating the success of GEAR UP TN.

·   Encourage parents/guardians to actively participate in the GEAR UP TN events.

·   Graduate from a GEAR UP TN high school.

Students who wish to participate in this scholars program must complete the GEAR UP TN Scholars Promise they were given, get it signed by a parent/guardian, and return it to Mrs. Andrews.   If you have any questions regarding this opportunity, please call 334-5799.   Students need to turn in the Promise by October 31.
